I’m a “blog slacker” October 29, 2008

So sorry I haven’t been checking in with you lately, just been very busy, basically managing Snuggles diabetes, running him back to the vet for “blood/glucose” tests, and most of all, giving him the insulin!
It’s been an uphill battle, but he seems to be okay, despite a few setbacks, like the one two weeks ago when I woke up and he wasn’t himself at all, apparantly, after taking the day off and running him to the vet, he caught a “bug” as my vet said, and had a fever, needed fluids, and antibiotics(which he is still taking!).
If you have any advice or words of wisdom about caring for a sick pet, I’d love to hear from you.
If you’ve checked in already(and a lot of you have!), I thank you so much.
Oh, and if you’re a cat lover, check out stuffonmycat.com!
That comes courtesy of Magic listener Carol, who sent it along to brighten my day.
Thanks!
Debbie

A quick update on Snuggles! October 7, 2008

Hi there…well, some of the blood work came back, and Snuggles is diabetic! So, I’m off to the pharmacy to get insulin and syringes, and get a quick tutorial on how to administer this to the “King of all cats!”
My vet is wonderful, and she’s coming to the house this afternoon to show me just what to do. It’s Rt 516 Animal Hospital in Old Bridge, and her name is Marni Cohen, in case you’re wondering!
The last time she came over, Snuggles looked at her with this look of horror, as if to say “No way, you make house calls?!!!!”
This, to say the least, should be interesting!
I’ll let you know how it goes.
Thanks so much for the kind words and sharing your wonderful pet stories with me! Keep ‘em coming, debbiem@magic983.com, or just reply to the blog.

Just checking in with you… October 6, 2008

Hello there!
Sorry, I’ve been a bit of a slacker in the “blog” department lately, but we had some family stuff going on, and our cat, Snuggles, has been sick.
Long story short, he was diagnosed a year ago with pancreatitis, and was put on medication.
Occasionally, he’d have a flare up, but it would go away after a day or two…NOT THIS TIME!
The latest flare up lasted almost 10 days, and our vet, Marni Cohen, at Rt 516 Animal Hospital in Old Bridge decided we should bring him in. (Snuggles says she’s the best vet in the world, even though he doesn’t like to go!)
Now, for anyone who has a cat that hates the cat carrier and the car, you know what it’s like. For those who don’t, let me just say it’s worse than “Toonces The Driving Cat,” the skit from the early days of SNL! He’s ALL OVER THE CAR…passenger seat, backseat, on your lap while driving, all while looking at other cars(while you’re at a light) and letting out a big “MEE-OOWW!”
Oh, and I forgot the best part of all…because he was going to have blood work done, WE HAD TO FAST HIM FOR 12 HOURS! So, the other two cats in the house, Bootsie and Casper, had to fast as well, and let’s just say Snuggles was NOT a happy camper in the morning! He kept trying to get me to go into the kitchen to make him “breakfast.” He had this look on his face that said “Did you forget something today? I want to eat!”
Anyway, he’s lost some weight, Marni did some blood work, and we’re hoping it’s something simple that can be cured or managed with diet or medication.
Snuggles is the oldest of our cats; we’re not exactly sure how old, but he’s between 14 and 17. I know he can’t live forever, but he’s been a part of our lives for the past 13 years(we adopted him in ‘95) and I can’t imagine living without him just yet.
The funny thing is, if you looked at him, or saw his antics at home(chasing Bootsie and Casper around, waking us up at 3am chewing on a magazine or sitting on your head while you’re sleeping) you’d never know anything was wrong with him!
I’ll keep you posted.
Hope things in your life are going well; drop me a line at debbiem@magic983.com, or just reply to the blog to fill me in.
